How We Got Here

Trans Support Derby was founded to support young people and their loved ones. There are children and young people across the UK who remain on long NHS waiting lists without the support they require. While waiting to be seen by Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) many young people's mental health and wellbeing deteriorates considerably leaving them further isolated. We have observed young people on the waiting list to become withdrawn with low mood and self-esteem. Parents and carers are left to deal with their child with no support and see them deteriorate over time. Children and young people withdraw from school causing low mood and anxiety in their daily lives.

We believe that our LGBTQIA+ services can help prevent young people deteriorating and give families access to affordable support when they need it most. We believe in the principles of early intervention. Children who receive the right support at the right time, tend to stay in education, learn to emotionally regulate subsequently reducing self-harm and suicide ideation.

We work in partnership with young people and their loved ones.

We are the experts in working with schools which is key to ensuring your child is understood in the environment where they should feel accepted and safe.
